It all started when Raymond Lauring decided to start his own business – and in 1948 Lauring Construction was born. It began small but soon the word spread, and those small jobs turned into homes — each one built with a focus on quality and craft. In 1955, Lauring Construction expanded, growing to meet the demands of high-scale commercial and industrial construction. Then, in 1984, Raymond’s sons, Mark, John, and Jim, took the lead. Under their supervision, the company flourished and became what it is today – an award-winning general contracting firm that maintains its family-owned-and-operated roots in Worcester County.
In 2023, the company celebrated its 75th anniversary. Actively involved with the day-to-day operations of the company since 2010, the third generation (Dan, Mike, and Chris Lauring) joined John and Jim as owners.
With 30 employees, Lauring has in-house experts in disciplines such as rough and finish carpentry, excavation and earthwork, and concrete finishing, giving the company an advantage with scheduling and coordinating these trades on projects. The company’s depth of knowledge enables it to better plan for jobs, more efficiently approach and complete projects, and effortlessly adapt to any changes that might occur throughout the construction process.
The company’s portfolio includes the 41,000 square foot Richard J. & Sophia Catrambone Health Sciences Center at Assumption University.

Since 2006, Lauring Construction has worked with Nichols College, a private business school in Dudley, Mass., completing more than 20 projects. Recently, the company finished a seven-phase renovation of Lombard Dining Hall.
Robert LaVigne, associate vice president for operations at Nichols College, said, “Lauring Construction did a great job with a challenging project. They respected the fact that the buildings were operational during construction and made sure to erect temporary enclosures and weather-proofing measures to protect our facilities.”
Over the past few years, Lauring has completed over 40 projects totaling $30 million for Franklin Realty Advisors, a full-service real estate development, property management, and advisory firm. Lauring has handled a variety of construction projects at the Mercantile Center and the Southbridge Innovation Center in Southbridge, Mass. on behalf of Franklin Realty and/or its tenants.
The Mercantile Center is a mixed-use property in downtown Worcester with two office towers at 100 and 120 Front Street containing 624,800 square feet of office and retail space, and a 1,647-space structured parking garage.
Centrally located for Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, the Southbridge Innovation Center offers a variety of building types with potential uses such as R&D, office, light manufacturing space, biotechnology, education, life sciences, and technology.
